Volunteer Opportunities

SCS Auxilliary: If you like to create handicrafts, knit, crochet, or quilt, come join our Auxiliary. It meets on Thursdays, and the quilters meet on Tuesdays. In the fall, the Auxiliary hosts a boutique with all proceeds benefitting the Community Christmas Center.

Bag People of SCS: Each month, bags of food are packed for distribution to hundreds of low-income families and seniors. This bag packing project requires 20-25 volunteers for 2-3 hours. The specific time for packing is determined by the availability of the volunteers.

Lobby Administrators: Volunteers greet clients and donors, give information about SCS programs and appropriate referrals for clients, register families for food and Community Christmas Center programs, and perform basic office duties. Our “lobby admins” work one morning or one afternoon a week.

Hotel Collectors: Collect hotel/motel toiletries while traveling or on vacation. We distribute hygiene kits of toothpaste, shampoo, soaps, lotions, and disposable razors to low-income and homeless clients.

Community Christmas Center: The Community Christmas Center affords families the dignity of selecting a two-week supply of food, new gifts for infants through teens, and a gift for every household (towels, blankets, basic kitchen items). Over 600 volunteers move tons of food and supplies, sort food and toys, stock shelves, escort clients, accept and pick up donations, and staff the reception area.

Food/Gift drives: Churches, schools, youth groups, civic organizations, and other groups conduct food and gift drives for SCS throughout the year, saving SCS the cost of purchasing these items.

If you have any questions, call Marie Barlahan, Director of Operations/Volunteers, at 738-4298 or by email: mbarlahan@svcommunityservices.org.
